With your guide enjoy a 2 hour walking tour through the ruins of this city, entering through Hadrian's Arch and visiting the Hippodrome, Temple of Zeus, Roman Theatres, Temple of Artemis, colonnaded streets and more. Return to Amman for overnight.

Day 3: Amman - Madaba - Mt Nebo - Baptism Site - Dead Sea

After breakfast, drive along the Kings' Highway to the 6th Century St George Church in Madaba to see the oldest known mosaic map of the Holy Lands. A short drive brings us to Mt Nebo where God permitted Moses a view of the Promised Land before he died. From the lookout see Jericho and the Dead Sea. Descend to the Rift Valley and travel to Bethany Beyond the Jordan. It is here that Jesus was baptised and where Joshua led the children of Israel into the Promised Land. Drive to the Dead Sea to check-in to your hotel for your overnight stay. The rest of the day is free-time. At 420m below sea level the Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth. Float in the therapeutic waters or indulge in a spa treatment at the hotel's facilities (extra cost).

Day 4: Dead Sea - Lot's Wife Pillar - Dana Nature Reserve - Shobak Castle - Petra

Breakfast, then we take the Dead Sea Highway travelling south. At the southern end of the Sea, we stop at Lot's Wife Pillar before ascending into the al-Sharah Mountains to reconnect with the Kings' Highway. Stop for gorgeous views at Dana Nature Reserve before continuing to Shokack and the Crusader Castle built by King Baldwin I in 1115. Our final destination for the day is Petra. Check-in to your hotel for overnight.

Day 5: Petra

Following breakfast meet with your English speaking guide for a 3-4 hour tour of the rose-red city of Petra. Walk the mile-long Siq (chasm) passing shrines, tombs and carvings before exiting to the breathtaking sight of the Treasury. Walk the Street of Facades, passing the Roman Theatre to reach the Royal Tombs. See the Byzantine Church, Temple of the Winged Lions and Great Temple. At the museum your tour ends. Spend the rest of the day exploring more of the city or climb to the Monastery and/or High Place of Sacrifice. Make your own way back to your hotel for overnight.

Day 6: Petra - Little Petra - Wadi Rum

Check-out of your hotel then travel the short distance to Little Petra (Baida). On these once-fertile plains, the large caravans (with up to 1,000 camels) used to assemble/rest before entering Petra or beginning their treks to the Far East, Egypt or Damascus. Little Petra provided accommodation and eateries for the cameleers. Take the Kings' Highway and travel south to the desert of Wadi Rum. Freshen up at your campsite and have a bbq lunch before climbing into the back of a 4WD jeep for a 3-hour tour of this vast desert - see rugged mountains, canyons, ancient rock inscriptions, towering sand dunes and more. Return to your campsite for sunset to enjoy a traditional Jordanian dinner (zarb) under the stars. Overnight at your desert campsite
